A wallet and reward system is the point where a consumer app becomes a financial one, and the requirements change accordingly. Balances have to be derived from an append-only ledger rather than stored as a mutable number, because a number that is written to can be wrong with no way to reconstruct the truth.

Task and reward platforms also attract abuse in predictable shapes — duplicate accounts, automated completion, and collusion between referrer and referred. Real-time updates make the product feel alive and make consistency harder, since two clients acting on the same balance need the write to be atomic rather than read-modify-write.
