Create styled QR codes for links, text, WiFi and email, then export as PNG.
QR codes carry error correction at four levels, and the highest can restore a code with roughly thirty percent of it damaged. That redundancy is what makes a logo in the middle work — it is not a hole in the format, it is deliberately sacrificed correction capacity.
Two things break scanning more often than anything else: insufficient contrast, and no quiet zone. The specification requires a clear margin of four modules around the code, and designs that crop tight to the edge fail on exactly the phones you did not test. Inverting to light-on-dark also defeats many scanners, which expect dark modules on a light field.
