Design a 1200×630 Open Graph / Twitter card and export the image plus meta tags.

1200×630 is the size to design for because it satisfies Facebook and Twitter's large card at the 1.91:1 ratio they both want. Undersized images get rejected or upscaled; the minimum widely accepted is around 600×315, and going below that gets you a small thumbnail instead of the full-width card.

The design constraint everyone forgets is the feed. That card is often seen at a third of its size on a phone, so anything smaller than about 40 pixels of type is illegible where it actually appears. Keep important content away from the edges too, since platforms crop the ratio differently.
