Image Toolkit

Resize, rotate, convert (PNG/JPG/BMP) and compress images locally in your browser.

Resizing is where quality is won or lost. Scaling down is really averaging many source pixels into one, and doing it in a single step throws away detail that stepwise reduction preserves. Scaling up cannot add information, only guess at it, which is why an enlarged image looks soft no matter how good the algorithm.

Format choice matters more than most compression settings. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which makes it right for interface graphics and wrong for photographs, where it produces enormous files. JPEG discards detail your eye is bad at noticing and is the opposite trade. Converting a JPEG to PNG does not restore anything already lost — it just stops losing more.
