Turn a code snippet into a beautiful image with syntax highlighting and a gradient backdrop.
A code image is for the places that cannot render code — slides, social posts, a talk — and it has one permanent drawback: nobody can copy from it. Anything a reader might need to run should come with the text somewhere too.
What makes one readable is restraint. Enough padding that the code is not against the frame, a font size that survives a phone screen, and a highlighting theme with real contrast. The most common failure is fitting too much in: a screenshot of forty lines is unreadable everywhere it gets shown, and the point was usually five of them.
