Higher or Lower

Will the next card be higher or lower? Call it right to build your streak — one wrong guess ends the run.

Guessing whether the next card is higher or lower is a clean test of whether someone updates on evidence. The correct play is always to compare against the cards already gone, not against the middle of the deck — after several low cards, seven becomes a strong hold rather than a coin flip.

It also exposes the gambler's fallacy from the other direction. In a shuffled deck without replacement, the removals genuinely do change the odds, which is the opposite of coin flips — so the intuition that feels superstitious here is actually correct, and the one that feels rigorous is wrong.
