Return windows and warranty periods are deadlines nobody diarises, so they are missed in the ordinary way — by the item breaking five weeks after a thirty-day window closed. The receipt usually still exists; what is missing is the reminder that it mattered.

Thermal receipts add a physical problem on top: the print fades, often within a year, and heat accelerates it. A photograph taken at purchase is legible permanently, which is frequently the difference between a warranty claim that succeeds and one that cannot be evidenced.
