Dim

A calm shutdown ritual that ends your workday on purpose — the anti-doomscroll transition.

The difficulty with remote and flexible work is not starting, it is stopping. Without a commute or a building to leave, there is no event that marks the end, so work bleeds into the evening in small pieces and the rest never quite happens.

A shutdown ritual is a deliberate replacement for that missing boundary — a fixed sequence that closes open loops, notes what is unfinished, and ends. Cal Newport's version is the best known. The mechanism is the same in every case: the loops are what keep intruding into the evening, and the ritual is what closes them on purpose rather than at 11pm.
